Speak Your city

If you could converse with your city what would you say? Speak your city allows you to see your areas health and respond to it in real time to have a two way conversation.  Using speculative design to project increasing trends in our current world of extreme censorship and data filtration. Speak your city is facilitated as a preventative measure by allowing localised points of true data to be shown in the context in near/real time to allow equitable collective civic change. Speak Your City gives your city a voice that you can learn and converse with in hopes of fostering long term equitable care for all human and non human residents of your city, building a two way dialogue that can be accessed through an app. An app that translates the city and feeds it to the user through an abstract ‘feeling’ visual language, making sure that residents are seemlessly able to access their city’s voice.

Context
As part of a group we looked at creating an exhibition to show the extremes and inequitable space of our future context. The consequences of limiting free speech as a way to promote ‘truth.’

Following a collapse of objective truth within the near future where fact and opinion become indistinguishable by following current world trends. The Uk government imposed a filtration system. A system in which all media including online voices and opinions undergo filtration and when needed censorship.

The exhibition was a 3 dimensional cage wired with red ropes containing future world headlines aswell as black ropes containing ‘censorship’ boxes that can be interacted with to censor specific headlines of your choosing. The exhibit acts as a censorship experience allowing viewers and participants to be in the seat of both the consumer of media aswell as those controlling the media.

From this group exhibition i then situated my design as a preventative measure to this. Promoting health through abstract ‘true’ language and allowing communication to those who we currently cant communicate with.

Value

The value lies within the equitability and sustainability by providing abstract means of non human communication. Allowing the framing of public civic life to be shaped and changed in a way that promotes sustainable long term living within the city through the subconscious building of habits shaped around health and recontextualising what it means to live within your city amongst non human life.
